Connect Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Drive (testing)

How to connect Gmail, Calendar and Drive so XomiW can read mail, create events and find files; the access it asks for; when to reconnect; how to disconnect.

3 min read

Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Drive connections are being tested with a small group while Google verifies XomiW's access. If your account doesn't show Gmail, Calendar and Drive cards in Settings → Connected apps, the feature isn't open for you yet.

Connect

  1. Go to Settings → Connected apps, choose Gmail, Google Calendar or Google Drive, and click "Connect". In the phone app, XomiW opens this page in your browser.
  2. Choose your Google account. During testing, Google may say "Google hasn't verified this app": click "Continue" if you are in the test group. If Google says "Access blocked", that email hasn't been added to the test group yet.
  3. Keep all the permissions it asks for, then click "Continue". If you untick one, the connection doesn't complete and XomiW tells you every box needs to be ticked.
  4. Back in XomiW, the card shows "Connected" with your Gmail address.

Each app connects separately: connecting Gmail doesn't let XomiW read your Calendar or Drive.

What access XomiW asks for

  • Gmail: read mail and attachments; draft and send mail. XomiW always asks you before sending, with an approval card showing the recipients, subject, content and attachments. See Approve before XomiW sends, edits or deletes.
  • Google Calendar: view, create and edit events; see busy times. Private events with no guests are created straight away; for events with guests (Google emails them an invitation) or edits to existing events, XomiW asks first.
  • Google Drive: find, read and download files to work on; upload result files to Drive. Uploading into a folder (which may be shared) needs your approval first.

The content of emails and files is only data to read: XomiW doesn't follow instructions written inside an email or a document. Executable files (.exe, scripts…) are never saved.

Example tasks

  • "Summarise my 5 latest emails"
  • "Set up a meeting tomorrow at 3pm with chi@congty.vn"
  • "Find the contract file on Drive and summarise the payment terms"

When you need to reconnect

When the card shows "Needs reconnecting" (in red), click "Reconnect" and repeat the steps above. This happens when you change your Google password, remove XomiW's access in your Google account, or, during testing, when Google expires the access by itself after 7 days. Your projects and settings stay as they were after reconnecting.

Disconnect

Click "Disconnect" on the card. XomiW deletes the stored access and asks Google to revoke it. If you still have another Google app connected with the same account (for example Calendar, when you disconnect Gmail), XomiW only removes its own part and doesn't revoke at Google yet, so Calendar keeps working; disconnecting the last one revokes it fully at Google. You can also remove access yourself at any time on Google's myaccount.google.com/connections page.

Does XomiW read my whole inbox?

XomiW only reads mail when you give it a task that needs it, and only the messages related to that task.

Can I use Gmail inside a project?

Yes. In a project, you choose which connections are on for that project; a connection that isn't on can't be used by XomiW in that project.

Reports, official letters, spreadsheets, reminders: write one sentence; XomiW does it and asks before sending or deleting anything.
